Description
|
This model,
produced by the Airline Radio Company in 1939, was more
expensive than most in the Bakelite radio arena, for it has several
features that are unusual. These features include: a roller style
dial indicator that lists frequencies and
associated station call letters from across the
country; six early pushbutton presets; and an incredible green
light signal strength meter (rare and almost prototypical for the
time, it glows most brightly when you are receiving the strongest
signal). Each of these features was unusual, each signifying the
radio's deluxe status. Sporting a classic automotive style
speaker grill, and painted in a highly attractive red and black
design that contrasts beautifully with the gold and black tweed
speaker cloth, this gem just demands attention from even the most
jaded or previously disinterested viewer. Magnificently restored,
the Airline 93WG601 measures 11-1/2" wide x 8-1/2" tall x
6-1/2" deep, and still possesses most of its original backplate.
